Brazilian Zouk
What is so good about Brazilian zouk?
1. Sensual:
The most "Sensual" movements in any latin couple dance. Some are also dramatic and stunning.
2. Flowing:
Continuous "Flowing wave" movement of the body, steps and figures.
3. Music variety:
Very wide and different variety of music, which also include much commerical music.
The beat of Brazilain zouk is very common in popular commerical music. Also we dance to fast and also very slow music.
Has 2 styles which most people will know.
It is very normal in a ZOUK party to dance both styles of Brazilian Zouk:
1. Traditional style
2. Modern style
People will normally “mix the 2 together”.
All Brazilian zouk congresses/parties normally have Traditional and Modern style music.
In Finland we teach and dance both Traditional and Modern Brazilian zouk styles.
1. Traditional style Brazilian Zouk
- Original dance form "Lambada" (the mother)
- Also called Porto-Seguro style

2. Modern style Brazilian Zouk
- Based on lambada steps and style (the child)
- Also called Rio Style
- This is the "New york cross-body Salsa" in Brazilian Zouk
- Figures: All basic Traditional Zouk steps with more complicated different arm Contortion (dramatic bending and flexing of the arms and body)
