Weekly Alppila Latin Dance Social on Fridays at 7–9 p.m.

Everyone is warmly welcome! The beginner classes start from the beginning 13.1.

This volunteer run social dance event is meant to be a relaxing way to start the weekend. There is always a bi-lingual (Finnish and English) pair dancing class in each event at 7–8 p.m. The class is either beginner or intermediate level Cross-Body-Style Salsa. From time to time the event caters a beginner class in Zouk, Kizomba, Bachata, Forró, Argentine Tango or other latin dance in which case that class replaces the CBS salsa class of that week’s event. Please arrive at the class at 7 p.m. sharp. Warm up music already at 6:45 p.m. The classes are taught by both resident and visiting dance instructors. The event also gives an opportunity for the more advanced dancers to practice to become dance instructors. During the classes partners will rotate. You do not need a partner of your own.

Salsa music from all corners of the world is played from 8–9 p.m. for social dancing. Also the music style of the day’s program is played during the social.You can join in just for social dancing too! The excellent wooden dance floor of the Alppila high school is provided by Tanssiklubi Star.

A membership of either Salsa Borealis - Sabor , www.salsa.fi/salsaborealis.html (12 € per year starting on May 1st) or Tanssiklubi Star,www.tanssiklubistar.fi (50 € per the calendar year 2012 – this payment includes also other benefits) is required. Kaikki ovat lämpimästi tervetulleita! Alkeistunnit alkavat alusta 13.1.

Tämä on vapaaehtoisvoimin järjestettävä tapahtuma, jonka tarkoitus on viikonlopun aloittaminen hauskalla tavalla. Tapahtumassa on joka kerta kaksikielinen (suomi ja englanti) paritanssitunti klo 19-20: Tunti on joko alkeis- tai jatkotason Cross-Body-Style -salsatunti. Ajoittain tapahtumassa on zoukin, kizomban, bachatan, forrón, argentiinalaisen tangon tai jonkun muun latinalaisen tanssin alkeistunti, joka korvaa CBS-salsatunnin sillä viikolla. Tule tunneille ajallaan klo 19, kiitos. Lämmittelymusiikkia soitetaan jo klo 18.45 lähtien. Tunteja opettavat joko pysyvät tai vierailevat opettajat. Tapahtuma tarjoaa myös mahdollisuuden edistyneempien tanssijoiden harjoitella opettamista. Pareja vaihdetaan tuntien aikana. Tunneille voi tulla ilman omaa paria.

Salsaa kaikista maailman kolkista soitetaan klo 20–21 vapaatanssia varten. Myös päivän ohjelma otataan huomioon sosiaaliosuuden musiikissa. Voit tulla tapahtumaan myös vain tanssimaan! Upean Alppilan lukion tanssiparketin tarjoaa Tanssiklubi Star.

fell in love with salsa a few years ago in Dublin. She currently teaches LA Ladies styling classes in Helsinki Salsa Academy. Her background is also in ballet, jazz and contemporary dance. Laura finds it important to teach certain fundamentals of dance technique. Dancing is also about having fun with a smile and enjoying the music.
LAURA HEIKKILÄ löysi rakkautensa salsaan muutama vuosi sitten. Hän opettaa tällä hetkellä LA Ladies Styling-tunteja Helsinki Salsa Academyssa. Lisäksi Lauran tanssitaustaan kuuluu balettia, jazz ja modernia tanssia. Laurasta on tärkeää opettaa tietyt tanssitekniikan perusteet. Niiden lisäksi tanssi on hymyilevää hauskanpitoa nautinnollisen musiikin tahtiin!

MIKKO RUUSKA
has danced since the beginning of 2007 and started CBS salsa a year later in 2008 in Alppila Salsa Social. Mikko finds it important to participate in workshops of as many teachers as possible and to travel often to festivals and congresses abroad. In addition to salsa Mikko dances argentine tango, bachata, kizomba, lindy hop, balboa, west coast swing, Finnish social dances and many more.
MIKKO RUUSKA on tanssinut vuoden 2007 alusta alkaen ja aloittanut cross body style salsan vuotta myöhemmin vuonna 2008 Alppilassa. Mikolle on tärkeää käydä mahdollisimman monien eri opettajien tunneilla ja matkustaa eri tanssifestareille ja -tapahtumiin ulkomaille. Hi Sampo are you sure about the (BPM)? I think that 160bpm or 228bpm is not easy to dance....!

yes, they are correct - just that sampo has been calculating the bpm based on each single beat (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,, while sometimes other DJs (or computer softwares) use to calculate based on every second beat (1,3,5,7).

Therefore, a song like 'Pa Bravo Yo' might be considered as 184 or 92 bpm according to the used method.

I personally use the second method - it feels more homogeneous with other non salsa music.

For the next two Alppila events, we are blessed to again have Johanna and Omar to teach the classes. Come to test if you like Johanna's and Omar's teaching style or just to have fun dancing. JOHANNA SALLINEN (Haapanen)
on kuubalaisen parisalsan euroopanmestari 2010. Johannalla on myös vahva kilpatanssin latinalaistanssien tausta sekä upeat esiintymistaidot. Johannan sydäntä lähellä on tanssitekniikan sekä viennin ja seuraamisen opettaminen. Vuonna 2010 Johanna opetti cbs salsaa Patricio Deuman kanssa Baila Bailassa ja vuonna 2011 hän oli naispääopettajana Helsinki Salsa Academyssä. Johanna on myös esiintynyt ja opettanut kansainvälisesti Roynet Pérezin kanssa mm. Pariisissa ja Cayennessa. Lokakuussa 2011 Johanna alkoi opettaa tanssikoulu Salsamorissa, Turussa (http://salsamor.fi/). Helmikuussa 2012 Johanna alkaa opettaa salsaa on1 & on2, cha cha:ta ja bachataa Helsingissä Omar Bakrin kanssa (http://idnz.org/helsinki). JOHANNA SALLINEN (Haapanen)
is the European Champion of Cuban Pair Salsa 2010. She has a strong Latin Ballroom background and great performing skills. Johanna has her heart in teaching dance technique and leading/following. In 2010 Johanna taught cbs salsa with Patricio Deuma at Baila Baila and in 2011 she was the principal female teacher at Helsinki Salsa Academy. She has also been performing internationally with Roynet Pérez. In October 2011 Johanna also started teaching at Salsamor in Turku (http://www.salsamor.fi/). February 2012 is when Johanna will start teaching Salsa on1 & on2, Cha Cha & Bachata in Helsinki with Omar Bakr (http://idnz.org/helsinki). Johanna has taught at Alppila three times before and has received great feedback.

OMAR BAKR
Was living in Alicante, Spain where was introduced briefly to Cuban salsa 10 years ago. The energy & freedom found in salsa music and dancing made him fall in love with salsa dancing. Late 2007 it became clear that he needed salsa in his life. With a drive to learn more Omar started to explore Cross Body Styles. Omar fusions different salsa styles into his own unique “free” style and his passions lie in following/leading, timing and unity. Omar is also capable of understanding and respecting both those people whom dance just for fun as well as those who want to study to gain deeper understanding on dance technique.
Omar moved to Finland in September 2011 and has since taught several workshops in Helsinki and Turku and has covered in Baila Baila. In January 2012 he started teaching at Salsamor in Turku (http://www.salsamor.fi/) and in February 2012 he will start teaching Salsa on1 & on2, Cha Cha & Bachata with Johanna in Helsinki (http://idnz.org/helsinki)
OMAR BAKR
Asuessaan Alicantessa, Espanjassa kymmenen vuotta sitten Omar tutustui kuubalaiseen salsaan. Salsamusiikin energisyys ja vapauden tunne saivat hänet rakastumaan salsan tanssimiseen, ja vuonna 2007 hän ymmärsi todella tarvitsevansa sitä elämäänsä. Samana vuonna hän alkoi innokkaasti opiskella Cross body-style salsaa. Omar fuusioi eri salsatanssityylejä omaksi uniikiksi ”vapaaksi” tyyliikseen. Hänen intohimojaan ovat seuraaminen/vienti, ajoitukset ja parityöskentely. Omar ymmärtää ja arvostaa sekä niitä tanssijoita, jotka tanssivat vain pitääkseen hauskaa sekä niitä, jotka ovat kiinnostuneita opiskelemaan enemmän ymmärtääkseen syvemmin tanssitekniikkaa.
Omar muutti Suomeen syyskuussa 2011 ja on siitä lähtien opettanut useita workshoppeja Helsingissä ja Turussa sekä sijaistanut opettajia Baila Bailassa. MARINO BRESCIANI
comes from Italy, and has been dancing since 2005. While traveling and living all around Europe, Marino got to know more of the salsa culture in many countries, especially in Italy, France, Germany and now Estonia and Finland. He likes to combine patterns he has learned from all around the world into his repertoire, from the local salsa socials, as well as bigger European salsa festivals. Marino teaches salsa for beginners at the 'Tartu Latin Club' in Estonia, and has also been teaching crossbody style salsa a few times at the 'Alppila Latin Dance Social' during 2011. Marino is also one of resident DJs of the local Helsinki salsa clubs, playing salsa music, bachata and other dance music
MARINO BRESCIANI on kotoisin Italiasta ja on tanssinut vuodesta 2005. Matkustellessaan ympäri Eurooppaa Marino on tutustunut salsakulttuuriin monissa maissa, erityisesti Italiassa, Ranskassa, Saksassa ja nyt Viossa ja Suomessa. Hän nauttii erimaissa paikalllisissa salsasociaalissa sekä eurooppalaisilla suuremmilla salsafestivaaleilla oppimiensa salsakuvioiden yhdistelemisestä. Marino opettaa salsaa alkeistasolla 'Tartu Latin Clubilla' Virossa ja on opettanut cbs salsa myös muutamia kertoja Alppila Latin Dance Socialissa vuonna 2011. Marino on myös yksi paikkansa vakiinnuttaneista DJ:stä Helsingin salsa clubeilla soittaen salsaa, bachataa ja myös muuta tanssittavaa musiikkia.

HANNA PINOLA
started dancing salsa 2010 in Alppila Salsa Social. In addition to dancing salsa actively, she also dances some other latin dances like Argentine Tango.
HANNA PINOLA aloitti salsan tanssimisen 2010 Alppila Salsa Socialissa. Aktiivisen salsailun lisäksi tanssii hän myös hieman muita latinalaistansseja, kuten argentiinalaista tangoa.

OUTI TÖRNWALL
on energinen ja aurinkoinen ihminen, joka kuvailee itseään todelliseksi salsariippuvaiseksi. Outi on opiskellut salsaa usean vuoden ajan ja hakenut tanssikokemusta sekä kotimaan että muiden maiden salsafestareilta ja -tapahtumista. Hän on ollut myös innokas Alppila-salsaaja. Outi on Helsinki Salsa Academyn (HSA) showryhmän tanssija ja yksi HSA:n apuopettajista. Salsa tuo Outin elämään iloa ja on Outin omien sanojen mukaan parasta mahdollista liikuntaa!
OUTI TÖRNWALL describes herself as energetic, cheerful and a complete salsa addict. She started learning salsa a few years back and has continued ever since to develope her dancing skills by participating in different salsa events and festivals in Finland and overseas. Outi has also been an enthusiastic salsera in Alppila. Currently she is a member of Helsinki Salsa Academy ‘s show team and does assistant teaching at the academy weekly. Salsa brings great joy to Outi’s life and as she says, it is the best kind of exercise there is!

LEO TZOU
opiskelee Helsinki Salsa Academyssa (www.helsinkisalsaacademy.com) ja on tanssikoulun Show-tiimi jäsen. Hän on syntyjään Taipeissa, mutta kasvanut Vancouverissa. Ensimmäisen salsatuntinsa hän kävi lomaillessaan Santiagossa, Chilessä. Rakkaus salsaan alkoi heti ensi silmäyksellä ja hän alkoi ottaa tunteja palatessaan kotiinsa Seattleen, jossa tuolloin asui. Intonsa kehittyä hyväksi tanssijaksi Leo sai asuessaan Zürichissä ja San Franciscossa, joissa hän näki Neeraj Maskaran, Luis Aguilaran, John Narvaezin ja tietenkin Mikko Kempen kaltaisia tanssimassa säännöllisesti viikoittain paikallisilla salsaklubeilla. Tällä hetkellä hän yrittää edelleen parantaa tanssitekniikkaansa tullakseen paremmaksi tanssijaksi.
LEO TZOU is a student at the Helsinki Salsa Academy (www.helsinkisalsaacademy.com) and is a member of the Academy Show Team. He was born in Taipei but grew up in Vancouver. His first salsa lesson was in Santiago, Chile while on vacation. He fell in love with it at first sight so he started taking lessons when he went back home to Seattle where he was living at the time. He got inspired to become a good dancer during his stay in Zurich and San Francisco where he saw the likes of Neeraj Maskara, Luis Aguilar, John Narvaez and of course, Mikko Kemppe dance in regular weekly local salsa nights. At the moment he is still trying to improve his techniques to become a better dancer.

FREDDY MARINHO
originally from Brazil, is a Professional Rio-Style Zouk Instructor. Freddy started dancing at a very young age and leading to him to start dancing and teaching professionally in Studio Núcleo de Dança Renata Peçanha in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has ran classes of Zouk, Salsa and Dança de Salão and taught workshops in many places of Brazil since 2004. In addition, he has been part of the Dance Company Prima Facie, where he made shows of Jazz and Contemporary Dance. He has also worked with Walt Disney World Brazil making shows as a ballet dancer in 2010. Freddy has also become a highly respected zouk teacher and performer internationally and now he is a developer of Zouk in Moscow, where he has had his own dance school since 2010.
FREDDY MARINHO on Riolaisen Zoukin ammattiopettaja Braziliasta. Hän aloitti tanssin hyvin nuorena, joka johti usaan ammattitanssijana ja opettajana Studio Núcleo de Dança Renata Peçanhassa Rio de Janeirossa, Brasiliassa. Freddy on opettanut Zouk, Salsa ja Dança de Salão tunteja ja tiiviskursseja eri puolilla Brasiliaa vuodesta 2004. ANDRESSA CASTELHANO
Performer, Teacher and Choreographer, started dancing Latin Dances and Ballroom in 2006. She got specialized in Zouk being in the Renata Peçanha’s Dance Company in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Andressa has a long experience of Jazz, Classical and Contemporary Ballet. She has been in the Dance Company Prima Facie, where she made shows of Jazz and Contemporary Dance.
ANDRESSA CASTELHANO on esiintyjä, opettaja ja koreografi, joka aloitti latinalaiset ja kilpatanssit vuonna 2006. Hän erikoistui Zoukiin oltuaan mukana Renata Peçanha’s Dance Companyssa Rio de Janeirossa, Brasiliassa. Andressalla on myös lukuisien vuosien kokemus jazztanssista ja modernista baletista. Hän on myös ollut tanssijana Dance Company Prima Faciessa.

30.3. Beginner class in Forró by José Santos and Marjaana Markkanen

Ok, as most of us does not know what Forró is, let's have an introduction.

BRAZILIAN FORRÓ, the Brazilian “humppa”, is very popular in Brazil but has become increasingly popular also in Europe and in North-America. Typical for it is the freedom to improvise and have room for the dancers personal style. As forró is not at all technical there are not so many classes for it found in Brazil. As said there are no strict rules in Forró but the most important things are the right rhythm, nice feeling and the contact with your dance partner. It's suited for people of all ages and there are different styles of it, slow and fast. The traditional forró (forró pé-de-serra) is very simple but the more modern forró (forró universitário) has taken many influences and figures from other dances such as salsa and rock’n roll. 



In Finland forró has little by little increased it popularity especially amongst capoeira hobbyists. There are approximately some hundreds of persons that know forró in Finland even if it's not being taught almost anywhere in the country on general basis. In Helsinki, forró can be danced in Brazilian parties and in some other latin parties (Pacifico and Puebla) about once a month as well as on the gigs of the Finnish band Banda Madrugada on various clubs and festivals.



In the Alppila class, we will learn of the multitude of styles of forró with emphasis on the traditional Forró and it's rhythm and emotion. Dancing in relaxed way and flexibility and other things typical to Forró will be practiced both individually and in pairs. One of the goals of the class is to make the participants familiar with the Forró music as well as to be able to differentiate between the traditional and the modern ways of dancing Forró. 



JOSÉ SANTOS

(alias Bom Cabelo) on tanssinut lapsesta saakka synnyinmaassaan Brasiliassa. Parikymppisenä hän muutti Pohjois-Brasiliasta Rio de Janeiroon, jossa ryhtyi capoeira-opettajaksi. JOSÉ SANTOS (alias Bom Cabelo) started dancing as a child in Brazil. In his twenties he moved from northern Brazil to Rio de Janeiro where he became a capoeira instructor. Living in Finland for the last four years, José has taught capoeira and brazilian dances (for instance forró, lambada (Brazilian merengue lambada that is more simple than zouk), couplereggae (sensual dance style developed in northern Brazil)) in Helsinki as well as held workshops all around Finland. José emphasizes rhythm, correct body movement and contact between the pair. He wants to create relaxed and fun atmosphere so that everyone can enjoy dancing. Marjaana Markkanen has been working as an assistant on José’s dance lessons since the year 2008.

Of the wide range of Brazilian dances, so far Marjaana has danced Forró, Lambada and couple reggae as well as Brazilian afro dances and northeastern Brazil's dances like coco de roda, tambor de crioula, jongo, and bumba meu boi. She has been working as an assistant on José Santos's dance lessons already since the year 2008.

LAURA HEIKKILÄ
fell in love with salsa a few years ago in Dublin. She currently teaches LA Ladies styling classes in Helsinki Salsa Academy. Her background is also in ballet, jazz and contemporary dance. Laura finds it important to teach certain fundamentals of dance technique. Dancing is also about having fun with a smile and enjoying the music.
LAURA HEIKKILÄ löysi rakkautensa salsaan muutama vuosi sitten. Hän opettaa tällä hetkellä LA Ladies Styling-tunteja Helsinki Salsa Academyssa. Lisäksi Lauran tanssitaustaan kuuluu balettia, jazz ja modernia tanssia. Laurasta on tärkeää opettaa tietyt tanssitekniikan perusteet. Niiden lisäksi tanssi on hymyilevää hauskanpitoa nautinnollisen musiikin tahtiin!

MIKKO RUUSKA
has danced since the beginning of 2007 and started CBS salsa a year later in 2008 in Alppila Salsa Social. Nowadays, he is already an Assistant instructor at the Helsinki Salsa Academy. Mikko finds it important to participate in workshops of as many teachers as possible and to travel often to festivals and congresses abroad. In addition to salsa Mikko dances argentine tango, bachata, kizomba, lindy hop, balboa, west coast swing, Finnish social dances and many more.
MIKKO RUUSKA on tanssinut vuoden 2007 alusta alkaen ja aloittanut cross body style salsan vuotta myöhemmin vuonna 2008 Alppilassa. Nykyisin hän on jo apulaisohjaaja Helsinki Salsa Academyssä. Mikolle on tärkeää käydä mahdollisimman monien eri opettajien tunneilla ja matkustaa eri tanssifestareille ja -tapahtumiin ulkomaille. Salsan lisäksi Mikko osaa tanssia argentiinalaista tangoa, bachataa, kizombaa, lindyhoppia, balboaa, suomalaisia seuratanssja ja monia muita paritansseja.

Alppila is a volunteer run social dance event that is meant as a relaxing way to start the weekend.
There is always a bi-lingual (Finnish and English) pair dancing class in each event at 7–8 p.m. The class is either beginner or intermediate level Cross-Body-Style Salsa. From time to time the event caters a beginner class in Zouk, Kizomba, Bachata, Forró, Argentine Tango or other latin dance in which case that class replaces the CBS salsa class of that week’s event. Please arrive at the class at 7 p.m. sharp. Warm up music already at 6:45 p.m. The classes are taught by both resident and visiting dance instructors. The event also gives an opportunity for the more advanced dancers to practice to become dance instructors. During the classes partners will rotate. You do not need a partner of your own.


Salsa music from all corners of the world is played from 8–9 p.m. for social dancing. Also the music style of the day’s program is played during the social. You can join in just for social dancing too! The excellent wooden dance floor of the Alppila high school is provided by Tanssiklubi Star.

LAURA HEIKKILÄ löysi rakkautensa salsaan muutama vuosi sitten. Hän opettaa tällä hetkellä LA Ladies Styling-tunteja Helsinki Salsa Academyssa. Lisäksi Lauran tanssitaustaan kuuluu balettia, jazz ja modernia tanssia. Laurasta on tärkeää opettaa tietyt tanssitekniikan perusteet. Niiden lisäksi tanssi on hymyilevää hauskanpitoa nautinnollisen musiikin tahtiin! 


MIKKO RUUSKA 

has danced since the beginning of 2007 and started CBS salsa a year later in 2008 in Alppila Salsa Social. Nowadays, he is already an Assistant instructor at the Helsinki Salsa Academy. Mikko finds it important to participate in workshops of as many teachers as possible and to travel often to festivals and congresses abroad. In addition to salsa Mikko dances argentine tango, bachata, kizomba, lindy hop, balboa, west coast swing, Finnish social dances and many more.

Mikolle on tärkeää käydä mahdollisimman monien eri opettajien tunneilla ja matkustaa eri tanssifestareille ja -tapahtumiin ulkomaille. Salsan lisäksi Mikko osaa tanssia argentiinalaista tangoa, bachataa, kizombaa, lindyhoppia, balboaa, suomalaisia seuratanssja ja monia muita paritansseja.

Alppila is a volunteer run social dance event that is meant as a relaxing way to start the weekend. 
There is always a bi-lingual (Finnish and English) pair dancing class in each event at 7–8 p.m. The class is either beginner or intermediate level Cross-Body-Style Salsa. From time to time the event caters a beginner class in Zouk, Kizomba, Bachata, Forró, Argentine Tango or other latin dance in which case that class replaces the CBS salsa class of that week’s event. Please arrive at the class at 7 p.m. sharp. Warm up music already at 6:45 p.m. The classes are taught by both resident and visiting dance instructors. The event also gives an opportunity for the more advanced dancers to practice to become dance instructors. During the classes partners will rotate. You do not need a partner of your own.




Salsa music from all corners of the world is played from 8–9 p.m. for social dancing. Also the music style of the day’s program is played during the social. You can join in just for social dancing too! The excellent wooden dance floor of the Alppila high school is provided by Tanssiklubi Star.
A membership of either Salsa Borealis - Sabor ,www.salsa.fi/salsaborealis.html (12 € per year starting on May 1st) or Tanssiklubi Star,www.tanssiklubistar.fi (50 € per the calendar year 2012 – this payment includes also other benefits) is required. Let's get an introduction to Argentine Tango! In comparison to cbs salsa Argentine tango is danced in a closer contact. Each and every dance step can be lead separately making the couple dance together all the time and both partners have their strong positions. As hobby tango is a versatile choice as it can started with even very little skill, but it can be developed also into a very acrobatic style.

The Alppila Argentine tango lesson will include both dance technique as well as a nice couple pattern allowing the participants to get a feeling of what Argentine Tango is like. The class is suitable for both those completely new to the dance, but also to those with approx. 2 years of Argentine tango experience. During the class the music will cover most of the major tango styles including also Tango Nuevo.

on kokenut ja aktiivinen opettaja ja sosiaalitanssija. Hänellä on yli 15-vuoden tausta argentiinalaisen tangon opettajana Helsingissä. MIKKO KEMPPE
Mikko Kempen salsaura alkoi Yhdysvaltain Louisianassa, jonne hän perusti kaksi salsayhteisöä. Muutettuaan San Franciscoon hänestä kehkeytyi yksi alueen huipputanssijoista. Mikko on matkustanut ympäri Yhdysvaltoja ja esiintynyt lukuisissa salsatapahtumissa samoilla lavoilla Eddie Torresin, Griselle Poncen, Luis Aguilarin, Anya Katsevmanin, Liz Liran, Cristian Oviedon ja tanssiryhmä Yamuleen kaltaisten huippunimien kanssa. Hän on myös San Franciscon kansainvälisen salsakongressin tanssikilpailun ammattilaissarjan kaksinkertainen finalisti.
Tänä päivänä Mikko kehittää päätoimisesti Suomen suurinta Crossbody salsakoulua: Helsinki Salsa Academyä, jonka toiminta-ajatuksena on tarjota kunnianhimoisille tanssijoille koulutuspaikka, joka antaa välineet ja oppimisympäristön saavuttaa korkein mahdollinen taso ja kehittyä sekä tanssijana että ihmisenä.
MIKKO KEMPPE is credited to be the principle founder for two salsa communities in Louisiana leaving a legacy of students and teachers behind after he moved to San Francisco. Once in the San Francisco Bay Area Mikko quickly became one the area’s top dancers traveling the United States performing in numerous salsa congresses and sharing the stage with famous performers like Eddie Torress, Griselle Ponce, Luis Aguilar, Anya Katsevman, Liz Lira, Cristian Oviedo, Yamulee among many others. He is also the two time finalist of the prestigious International San Francisco Salsa Congress in the Professional division.
Mikko is the founder of the largest crossbody style salsa school in Finland: Helsinki Salsa Academy, which mission is to provide all aspiring dancers in Helsinki, Finland a training academy where each dancer is given the tools and learning environment to become the best they can possibly be, an opportunity to grow not only as a dancer, but as a human being.

OUTI TÖRNWALL
on energinen ja aurinkoinen aktiivi, joka kuvailee itseään todelliseksi salsariippuvaiseksi. Outi on opiskellut salsaa usean vuoden ajan ja hakenut tanssikokemusta sekä kotimaan että muiden maiden salsafestareilta ja -tapahtumista. Hän on ollut myös innokas Alppila-salsaaja. Outi on Helsinki Salsa Academyn (HSA) showryhmän tanssija ja yksi HSA:n apuopettajista. Salsa tuo Outin elämään iloa ja on Outin omien sanojen mukaan parasta mahdollista liikuntaa!
OUTI TÖRNWALL describes herself as energetic, cheerful and a complete salsa addict. She started learning salsa a few years back and has continued ever since to develope her dancing skills by participating in different salsa events and festivals in Finland and overseas. Outi has also been an enthusiastic salsera in Alppila. Currently she is a member of Helsinki Salsa Academy ‘s show team and does assistant teaching at the academy weekly. Salsa brings great joy to Outi’s life and as she says, it is the best kind of exercise there is!

KIMMO LUUKKONEN
löysi tanssin ilon lavatansseista 1980-luvun lopussa ja on sittemmin harjoitellut useimpia maassamme tanssittavia paritansseja. Hän on ohjannut pian kaksi vuosikymmentä, enimmäkseen suomalaisia seuratansseja. Kimmon mielestä parin myönteinen huomiointi on tanssissa ehkäpä tärkeintä. Tekniikkaa on ansiokasta ja hyödyllistä treenata, mutta yhteinen tanssin ilo on vielä tärkeämpää. Kimmo ohjaa meille ajoittain, muun muassa cha-chata ja kizombaa. Kimmo Luukkonen on uransa aikana sekä harjoitellut että ohjannut Tanssiklubi Starissa.
KIMMO LUUKKONEN tells his love for dance started in late 80’s. He has been a greatly appreciated dance instructor for the last two decades teaching a great variety of social dances from Finnish Lavatanssit to other social dances. Time to time Kimmo will bring us some of his knowledge of social dances including Cha-Cha and Kizomba. He teaches dance technique in a brilliant way but always emphasizes that a positive attitude and caring for the partner will produce the most enjoyable dance. Dance is passion and joy! JULIA TOIVANEN
started dancing ballet at a very young age and has since taken up a variety of different dances such as zouk, salsa, kizomba and argentine tango. Julia currently teaches Finnish social dances at HOT-Dance.

Alppila is a volunteer run social dance event that is meant as a relaxing way to start the weekend. 
There is always a bi-lingual (Finnish and English) pair dancing class in each event at 7–8 p.m. The class is either beginner or intermediate level Cross-Body-Style Salsa. From time to time the event caters a beginner class in Zouk, Kizomba, Bachata, Forró, Argentine Tango or other latin dance in which case that class replaces the CBS salsa class of that week’s event. Please arrive at the class at 7 p.m. sharp. Warm up music already at 6:45 p.m. The classes are taught by both resident and visiting dance instructors. The event also gives an opportunity for the more advanced dancers to practice to become dance instructors. During the classes partners will rotate. You do not need a partner of your own.

Salsa music from all corners of the world is played from 8–9 p.m. for social dancing. Also the music style of the day’s program is played during the social. You can join in just for social dancing too! The excellent wooden dance floor of the Alppila high school is provided by Tanssiklubi Star.
A membership of either Salsa Borealis – Sabor, www.salsa.fi/salsaborealis.html (12 € per year starting on May 1st) or Tanssiklubi Star, www.tanssiklubistar.fi (50 € per the calendar year 2012 – this payment includes also other benefits) is required. MIKKO KEMPPE
Mikko Kempen salsaura alkoi Yhdysvaltain Louisianassa, jonne hän perusti kaksi salsayhteisöä. Muutettuaan San Franciscoon hänestä kehkeytyi yksi alueen huipputanssijoista. Mikko on matkustanut ympäri Yhdysvaltoja ja esiintynyt lukuisissa salsatapahtumissa samoilla lavoilla Eddie Torresin, Griselle Poncen, Luis Aguilarin, Anya Katsevmanin, Liz Liran, Cristian Oviedon ja tanssiryhmä Yamuleen kaltaisten huippunimien kanssa. Hän on myös San Franciscon kansainvälisen salsakongressin tanssikilpailun ammattilaissarjan kaksinkertainen finalisti.
Tänä päivänä Mikko kehittää päätoimisesti Suomen suurinta Crossbody salsakoulua: Helsinki Salsa Academyä, jonka toiminta-ajatuksena on tarjota kunnianhimoisille tanssijoille koulutuspaikka, joka antaa välineet ja oppimisympäristön saavuttaa korkein mahdollinen taso ja kehittyä sekä tanssijana että ihmisenä.
MIKKO KEMPPE is credited to be the principle founder for two salsa communities in Louisiana leaving a legacy of students and teachers behind after he moved to San Francisco. Once in the San Francisco Bay Area Mikko quickly became one the area’s top dancers traveling the United States performing in numerous salsa congresses and sharing the stage with famous performers like Eddie Torress, Griselle Ponce, Luis Aguilar, Anya Katsevman, Liz Lira, Cristian Oviedo, Yamulee among many others. He is also the two time finalist of the prestigious International San Francisco Salsa Congress in the Professional division.
Mikko is the founder of the largest crossbody style salsa school in Finland: Helsinki Salsa Academy, which mission is to provide all aspiring dancers in Helsinki, Finland a training academy where each dancer is given the tools and learning environment to become the best they can possibly be, an opportunity to grow not only as a dancer, but as a human being.

OUTI TÖRNWALL
on energinen ja aurinkoinen aktiivi, joka kuvailee itseään todelliseksi salsariippuvaiseksi. Outi on opiskellut salsaa usean vuoden ajan ja hakenut tanssikokemusta sekä kotimaan että muiden maiden salsafestareilta ja -tapahtumista. Hän on ollut myös innokas Alppila-salsaaja. Outi on Helsinki Salsa Academyn (HSA) showryhmän tanssija ja yksi HSA:n apuopettajista. Salsa tuo Outin elämään iloa ja on Outin omien sanojen mukaan parasta mahdollista liikuntaa!
OUTI TÖRNWALL describes herself as energetic, cheerful and a complete salsa addict. She started learning salsa a few years back and has continued ever since to develope her dancing skills by participating in different salsa events and festivals in Finland and overseas. Outi has also been an enthusiastic salsera in Alppila. Currently she is a member of Helsinki Salsa Academy ‘s show team and does assistant teaching at the academy weekly. Salsa brings great joy to Outi’s life and as she says, it is the best kind of exercise there is!

KIMMO LUUKKONEN
löysi tanssin ilon lavatansseista 1980-luvun lopussa ja on sittemmin harjoitellut useimpia maassamme tanssittavia paritansseja. Hän on ohjannut pian kaksi vuosikymmentä, enimmäkseen suomalaisia seuratansseja. Kimmon mielestä parin myönteinen huomiointi on tanssissa ehkäpä tärkeintä. Tekniikkaa on ansiokasta ja hyödyllistä treenata, mutta yhteinen tanssin ilo on vielä tärkeämpää. Kimmo ohjaa meille ajoittain, muun muassa cha-chata ja kizombaa. Kimmo Luukkonen on uransa aikana sekä harjoitellut että ohjannut Tanssiklubi Starissa.
KIMMO LUUKKONEN tells his love for dance started in late 80’s. He has been a greatly appreciated dance instructor for the last two decades teaching a great variety of social dances from Finnish Lavatanssit to other social dances.
